Midnight Athenaeum plays local audiobook files with real chapter navigation, per-book resume, per-book playback speed, bookmarks, skip-silence, volume normalization, and a sleep timer. A Continue Listening shelf, library filters, and series grouping keep the book you're on one click away, even in a library of thousands. Entirely offline and local -- no account, no server, no telemetry.
Bug-fix release. Delete book (files too) could send other books to the Recycle Bin when a book's audio sat loose in a folder that also held other books in subfolders; it now only touches that book's own files, and Reorganize library by author is safe in the same situation (no overwrites, failed moves rolled back, undo can be retried). Also: a malformed .m4b can no longer make the app use over a gigabyte of memory, two scans can no longer run at once, plus smaller fixes and a patched networking library (undici).
