What's new in 0.6.2
Supercell Wx v0.6.2 v0.6.2 adds layer opacity, radar beam-height units, Windows on Arm, and Mobile Radar Research Lab (MRRL) Level 2 data. Windows install and update now go through an NSIS bootstrapper instead of launching the MSI directly.
🎚️ Layer Opacity Fade radar so satellite and streets show through, and set the same control on overlay layers. - Radar Opacity in Radar Toolbox → Map Settings fades the live radar product - Layer Manager has an Opacity column and slider for overlay layers (alerts, placefiles, markers, and similar). Map underlay and map symbology stay fully opaque Settings persist in layers.json. — @dpaulat (#682)
📡 Radar Data & Tooltips
ARL / MSL beam height — Shift+hover now labels beam height as above radar level (ARL) or mean sea level (MSL). Choose the reference under Settings → Units → Radar Beam Height (MSL is the default). ARL is useful near the site, especially at high-elevation radars where MSL includes the tower height — @dpaulat (#683)
MRRL Level 2 — Launch with --level2-provider https://feeds.mrrl.net/polling/ to use the Mobile Radar Research Lab feed. The MRRL site list loads automatically. Only one Level 2 provider can be active at a time; this replaces the default AWS source for that session. See the command-line options — @dpaulat (#704)
Custom radar sites — --custom-radars-gis points at a GIS file of extra sites. Data must still come from the active Level 2/3 provider — @dpaulat (#697)
💻 Windows on Arm Native Windows arm64 builds and installers are available. Use the arm64 package on Windows 11 on Arm (OpenGL 3.3 required); x64 and arm64 installers are not interchangeable. Some Arm VMs do not provide a usable OpenGL context — if the main window is blank, try physical Arm hardware or disable 3D acceleration in the VM. — @dpaulat (#442)
📦 Windows Installer (NSIS) The recommended Windows download is now supercell-wx-v*-windows-<arch>.exe. The NSIS bootstrapper installs the Visual C++ Redistributable, then the MSI. The in-app updater launches that same .exe (so UAC elevation works) instead of msiexec. Updates no longer remove the Start Menu shortcut, which was breaking taskbar pins. The MSI is still published for environments that require it; it does not install the redistributable. On the components page you can add Start Menu shortcuts that launch with the Iowa State Mesonet or MRRL Level 2 providers. The default shortcut is always installed. Silent installs can pass /NOPROVIDERSHORTCUTS to skip the extras. …
