BentoDesk is a next-generation bento-box organizer for the Windows desktop, powered by Rust and built for quiet elegance. Keep files in reach and noise out of sight: organize the desktop into zones and stacks that open, bloom, and go quiet again. The installer is per-user, fully offline and bilingual.
What's new in 2.2.0
BentoDesk 2.2.0 completes expanded Zone resizing with the four full edges and four corners. Edge drags resize one axis, corner drags resize both axes, Windows resize cursors match the active handle, and the opposite edge stays fixed while the saved Zone geometry remains stable across restart. Item cards now adapt their icon and label layout to the available card size. Higher-resolution native icon sources refresh the old cache automatically; wrapped labels, stable row geometry, shared scrolling, and centered hover enlargement keep paint, hit testing, search, Stack previews, and drag-and-drop aligned. The Windows updater now uses the default official endpoint https://api.github.com/repos/ZRainbow1275/bentodesk/releases/latest over HTTPS. A controlled BENTODESK_UPDATE_MANIFEST_URL may select an HTTPS, file, or local override. Scheduled checks run immediately and then at the selected cadence (Weekly by default; Manual disables scheduled checks). Auto-download is enabled by default. On the default channel, it stages the exact official setup only after its GitHub SHA-256 digest is verified. A controlled override stages its declared artifact only after manifest SHA-256 or embedded-key minisign verification. Installation always requires an explicit user action. BentoDesk remains local-first: there is no account, project-operated server, telemetry, analytics, advertising, cloud storage, crash upload, or upload of desktop file paths, names, icons, or contents. GitHub, or the host selected by a controlled HTTPS override, can receive ordinary HTTPS request metadata such as the source IP address and BentoDesk User-Agent under its own policies.
BentoDesk 2.1.0 keeps Zone and Stack capsules inside the current Windows work area, including scaled displays and taskbars on any edge. Saved positions are repaired against the visible capsule footprint and remain stable across restart and work-area changes. Zone panels again expand toward the available quadrant: capsules on the right or bottom anchor their panels to the matching edge. Paint, hit testing, search, drag and drop, and mirrored resizing now consume the same resolved geometry; Stack management surfaces anchor to the actual Stack capsule. Zone Editor column choices now remain exact in narrow panels instead of being silently reduced. Native file icons also preserve RGBA colour channels, and the old affected icon-cache revision is refreshed automatically at startup.
2.0.9Aug 11, 2026
BentoDesk 2.0.9 updates the project documentation and community launch copy. The English and Simplified Chinese READMEs now link Linux Do and NodeSeek in the acknowledgements. Application behavior is unchanged from 2.0.8. The Windows setup and portable packages are rebuilt from this exact source commit. Setup remains per-user, offline and bilingual; uninstall preserves settings unless deletion is separately selected and confirmed.
