About RidoGuard

RidoGuard is a desktop application for reviewing and changing Windows privacy, security and
performance settings from one place.

It covers telemetry and diagnostic data settings, Windows services, startup programs, removal and
restore of preinstalled Store apps, a per-app firewall, app permissions for the camera, microphone
and location, a hosts file editor, ready-made profiles, and re-applying a profile on a schedule. A
security audit reads antivirus, firewall, UAC, BitLocker and Secure Boot state, and saves it as a
PDF report. Diagnose Device checks interrupt load, cooling, sensors, USB devices,
drivers, drive health, firmware, displays and restore points, and can copy a file out of a
restore point.

Applying a profile shows the list of changes first. Once the list is approved, RidoGuard asks
Windows for a restore point and backs up each registry key before it changes it. The individual
switches take effect at once. Any modification is logged, in the Audit Log and in the Windows
Application event log. Registry, service, startup and power plan changes, and
firewall blocks RidoGuard added, can be rolled back from the Audit Log or with ridoguard
rollback. DNS, hosts file, per-app firewall, permission and policy changes are logged only.

RidoGuard has no account and collects no telemetry or analytics. It checks GitHub for a newer
release when it starts and downloads nothing until you click Download and install. That check can
be switched off on the About screen. Other network activity happens only on screens that need it:
App Installer runs winget, Windows Update checks Microsoft's servers, and blocking a telemetry host
looks up its address. It requires administrator rights to edit system settings, services and
firewall rules.

Builds are not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen shows an unknown publisher warning on first
run.

What's new in 1.3.0

Diagnose Device: checks interrupt load, cooling against the power budget, sensors, USB devices,
drivers, drive health, firmware, screens and restore points. Where RidoGuard can fix a finding
itself, it has a Fix this button, and any change is logged in the Audit Log. The cooling test
works your graphics card and processor flat out for about a minute, with nothing to install.

About screen with the version, links and a Check for updates button. The About menu opens it.

The ridoguard command line tool ships in both downloads. Only its commands that change settings
ask for administrator rights. The Audit Log can Roll Back to Last Change, which will list what it
undoes and asks you. If you run it again, it'll revert to the session before. Any modification is
logged.

Light and dark themes are both readable. The first launch follows the Windows theme settings, the
toggle preference is saved.

Updates ask first. Nothing downloads until you click Download and install, and the startup check
can be switched off.

The drift banner lists which settings changed since a profile was applied.

The Explorer sort fix no longer restarts Explorer in a loop, and Undo puts its changes back.

Third-party notices ship with both downloads.

Fixed: importing a saved profile applies it, the scheduled re-apply task runs, a refused restore
point shows up whichever way you apply a profile, and the installer removes debug symbol files
older versions left behind. Launch RidoGuard on the installer's last page works now. It failed
with code 740.

RidoGuard version history

1.2.4 Sep 1, 2026

First public release through the RidoGuard release channel.

Added: Windows event log integration, exportable PDF hardening report, and a portable build
alongside the installer.

Changed: both builds now carry their own .NET 8 runtime, so there is no prerequisite to install
and the installer completes unattended with no prompts.

Fixed: firewall rules fail loudly instead of silently skipping on DNS resolution failure, DNS
changes no longer report a false success, the performance optimizer counts only processes it
actually trimmed, and a service handle leak is closed.
