NetVane finds the devices on your network - phones, laptops, cameras, smart-home gadgets - and draws them as a live map: what each device is, how it connects, and what it is exposing, with plain-language fixes.
Discovered service versions are matched against an NVD and CISA-KEV vulnerability database bundled with the app, so exposure checks work with no internet connection. There is no cloud service, no account and no agent: the app opens a local dashboard at 127.0.0.1:8787 and keeps everything in a local database on the machine it runs on.
The free edition is not a trial. Discovery, the topology map, device identification, port fingerprinting, CVE and KEV matching, report export and local backups are all perpetual, with no account required, and vulnerability and fingerprint data updates stay free. Optional Pro and Business licences add scheduled and background scanning, multiple subnets, credentialed validation, extended retention, remote alerts, and compliance reporting for teams.
Installs per-user and needs no administrator rights. A portable build is also available from the website for use without installing.
What's new in 1.5.0
Expect findings you have not seen before, on devices that have not changed. NetVane now reads the certificate each encrypted service presents - it used to check only which protocol versions they would accept - so a device quietly serving a certificate that expired a year ago will say so today. And if you have set a device's importance, that rating now counts towards your score; if you never set it, your score has not moved. Beyond that: a measured map of which of your own devices talk to each other, an in-use mark on the ports something is actually using, one list of every certificate and when it runs out, and an alert when two of your devices start a conversation they have never had. A copied portable folder now brings its history with it.
Phones and laptops change their Wi-Fi address on a schedule, and NetVane was counting each change as a brand-new device. It now spots when two records look like the same physical device, shows you why it thinks so, and asks - it never merges on its own. How hard it looks is now one choice rather than seven switches, and every scan says plainly how much of your network it actually reached, without estimating what it did not see. You can seal the devices you expect and be told about anything else that turns up, see what software is listening rather than only which devices exist, and read why NetVane believes a device is what it says - and overrule it.
1.3.1Aug 31, 2026
NetVane has been through two independent security reviews of its privacy and security claims, and this release is what came out of them. Some changes make it deliberately stricter: it now scans only your own network and refuses publicly routable addresses; undoing a router fix asks first and confirms with the router afterwards; a device that could not be fully checked is no longer reported as secure; and sending a problem report no longer includes raw log text.
