Free and friendly virtualization on desktop
VMware Workstation Player is a free desktop program that runs virtual machines on desktop or laptop systems. It lets users create, configure, and run other operating systems inside their main system, making it a useful tool for testing software, exploring other OSes, or isolating tasks from the host environment.
VMware Workstation Player works with a wide range of guest systems, including Windows and popular Linux distributions like Ubuntu and Fedora. It supports simple file sharing between host and guest through drag-and-drop and copy-paste. Networking options include NAT, bridged, and host-only modes. Features like USB 3.0 support, basic 3D acceleration, and VMware Tools integration help improve compatibility and provide a smoother virtual experience.

Running a second operating system or trying out new software generally feels smooth and responsive. Performance holds up well for everyday use, as long as the host computer has enough memory and processing power to handle the load.
